The Nathan Fillion-led procedural is one of ABC's top performers, both on linear broadcast and on streaming via Hulu. It's an understatement to say that it's already a legacy series-in-the-making, considering how long it has been on the air and its ability to continue growing its viewers. The 2025-2026 TV cycle evolved its storytelling in a few ways, but with that done, the attention has now shifted to what lies ahead of Mid-Wilshire. While The Rookie has a clear titular character, it is, like so many long-running procedurals, an ensemble show. Aside from the weekly cases that Mid-Wilshire tackles every week, its storytelling is balanced with personal arcs for its cast. Some of them get more focus than others because of the public's investment in them or how long they have been in the series, but ultimately, the players are the backbone of the procedural.
