As Nathan Fillion reunites the original Firefly cast for a new animated series, a familiar character will also be returning with a different actor.

Joss Whedon's sci-fi series Firefly ran for just one season in 2002. It has since become a cult classic, receiving a continuation in the form of the 2005 movie Serenity. While the franchise subsequently went dormant, it was recently announced that an animated series is in development with original stars Fillion, Alan Tudyk, Morena Baccarin, Gina Torres, Adam Baldwin, Jewel Staite, Summer Glau, and Sean Maher reprising their roles.

Fillion confirmed to Deadline that the iconic character Shepherd Derrial "Shep" Book will be returning for the animated Firefly series. However, since the original actor, Ron Glass, died a decade ago, Shep will be voiced by a new actor in the reboot. Per Fillion, the team is currently looking for a "Ron Glass-type" for the role.
