In the heart of London, on the 30th floor of a towering skyscraper, lived a black cat named Guinness.
Guinness wasn’t your average city cat. He spent his days inside the apartment, gazing out at the busy world below, content in his cozy surroundings. However, Guinness had one extraordinary weekly ritual that gave him something to look forward to: the arrival of Stephen, a window washer.

Stephen would lower his platform down the side of the building every Tuesday, making his way to the 30th floor to clean the windows. When he reached Guinness’ floor, the cat would be waiting. Every week, Guinness would paw at the window, chase Stephen’s squeegee, and leap around, delighted by the simple game they played. Stephen would respond with a smile, sometimes making funny faces at Guinness or drawing smiley faces in the soap suds. For both Guinness and Stephen, these brief moments spent together became a joyful, regular part of their lives—a friendship built through glass.

But one Tuesday, things changed. Stephen didn’t show up.

Guinness, confused, waited by the window, meowing and pacing, but there was no familiar face, no friendly face making silly gestures at the window. A different window washer arrived, ignoring the cat, and simply went about his job. Guinness, disappointed and confused, turned away, walking off with his tail down.

This marked the start of a lonely period for Guinness, one that would last much longer than either Stephen or the cat could have imagined….
