We like Stidham as a backup, but today was just an impossible situation. There's no substitute for a season of reps with your receivers to get the timing down, the kinks worked out, the internal clock 01/25/26 06:28 PM

for pass rush, etc. The feel for when the play is breaking down and you have to throw the ball away (which is ultimately what cost us the game on that one play where he kept retreating and turned it over instead of throwing the damn ball away like he should have).
It's not just what you do when things are going well, it's what you do when things aren't. Those are the mistakes that cost you close games. With our top RB out too, that's just too much on a backup QB with no live reps. And once we got behind, the weather made it impossible to come back, even if he could have gotten it together.
