Carol Ann Susi, the unforgettable yet unseen voice of Mrs. Wolowitz, left a lasting impact on The Big Bang Theory both on and off screen. Since she didn’t drive, her co-stars Melissa Rauch and Kunal Nayyar often gave her rides home after work, leading to warm, personal conversations.
Rauch remembered how Susi would carry all her bags and take the bus to Warner Bros., joking: “I’m not going to drive in this city with all the crazies!” Nayyar recalled picking her up in his sports cars, and her childlike excitement always shone through: “Vroom, vroom! That felt good! Do it again!”
When Susi passed away in 2014 the loss hit the cast deeply. Nayyar remembered her iconic optimism —she always said, “I’m great, darling. I’m lovely! Every day is a blessing” even during her final weeks. Rauch described her memorial as unlike any other—cast and crew gathered on stage sharing heartfelt stories through tears.
To honor her, Steve Molaro and Johnny Galecki placed her photo on the refrigerator in Sheldon and Leonard’s apartment, where it remained until the series finale. Simon Helberg noted that since fans never knew what she looked like, the photo became a “secret nod” between the cast, keeping her memory alive forever.
