Lorre shared these thoughts in a vanity card that aired after the antepenultimate episode of Young Sheldon, which depicted the off-screen death of George Cooper Sr., portrayed by Lance Barber in the prequel series. According to Lorre, the idea initially seemed effective when The Big Bang Theory began nearly two decades ago, as it helped shape Sheldon’s backstory. However, he said the long-term consequences of that choice were not fully anticipated at the time.
