Survivor's Colby Donaldson Says His Foot Injury Included 'Worst Infection' the Show's Doctors Had Ever Seen
Survivor: Australian Outback fan-favorite Colby Donaldson opened up about the brutal foot injury that contributed to his early exit from Survivor 50. In an exclusive interview, the 51-year-old revealed that what viewers saw on screen was only part of the story — his foot suffered two separate injuries that quickly turned serious.
During a reward challenge involving pushing a boat up the beach, Donaldson tore a ligament in his foot. Shortly after, while walking back, he stepped on something that introduced bacteria, leading to a rapidly worsening infection. By day 10, the swelling, redness, and heat intensified, forming a pus pocket that required serious antibiotics — unavailable on the island.Medical staff, including Dr. Joe, monitored him closely and considered pulling him from the game for treatment.
Donaldson convinced producers to let him compete until Tribal Council so he could say goodbye properly. After his elimination in the Blood Moon triple elimination episode, Dr. Joe treated him at Ponderosa and declared it “probably the worst infection he’s seen on the show.”Donaldson shared that he doesn’t believe he could have lasted much longer with the infection spreading. Thankfully, his foot has since healed fully.
