They usually casted 2 (sometimes 3) black contestants every season to be consistent with US demographics. This season they dramatically jumped that to 6 for both Survivor and BB. When contestants look around and see that, it's gotta stick out like a flashing sign. No way they didn't notice that, and the wheels start turning on an obvious alliance.
