Apple TV's 'Silo' Returns With an Iran Bombing-Reflecting Pool Double Whammy
'Silo' showrunner Graham Yost reveals a Season 3 change he made due to the United States' real-life attack on Iran.

Apple TV's post-apocalyptic Silo will eerily evoke two current headlines in a single scene when Season 3 opens Friday, July 3.
It's not spoiling anything to say one of the penultimate season's early scenes — set in the dystopian drama's "Before Times" (or as showrunner Graham Yost has put it, "a wink" into our own future) — finds Georgia Congressman Daniel Keene (played by Succession's Ashley Zukerman) and his Navy pilot sister Charlotte (Downton Abbey's Jessica Brown Findlay) seated by the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool as they furtively discuss the United States military's plan to bomb Iran.
Though the scene was filmed on location in Washington, D.C., well over a year ago, Yost acknowledges that it "absolutely" might hit differently given the headlines of today.
In fact, it almost was even more on the nose.
Yost shares with Matt's Inside Line that, after previously electing to change Congressman Keene's first name from a Trumpian Donald (as it is in novelist Hugh Howey's Silo trilogy) to Daniel for his first appearance in the Season 2 finale's "bonus" scene, he was moved to rechristen the show's military operation against Iran, in which Charlotte takes part.

"When we were at the Reflecting Pool, that was April of '25, and at that point we'd come up with the name Operation Righteous Hammer," Yost tells Matt's Inside Line. "Two months later, the actual [bombing of Iranian nuclear facilities] happened and they called it Midnight Hammer. It was like, 'Well, we're going have to rename it,' so we made it Righteous Vengeance instead."
"I mean, it's all weird," Yost shrugs while noting that Howey incorporated the near-futuristic conflict with Iran in his Silo books "forever ago" — or at least as far back as 2013, when the second entry, Shift, was published.
One thing Yost did not take dramatic liberty with was the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool's water, which as glimpsed in the season opener (and in real life) is not particularly clear/"blue."
"It's a reflecting pool. That [goose] s--t happens," he observes with a laugh, recalling his time on that April 2025 location shoot. "There's goose poop in the grass, it's in the water.... It's called nature, and it just happens." ….
