VisionQuest star Paul Bettany says new series is another ‘massive swing’ (exclusive)
The actor describes the Marvel series as a Frankenstein tale about identity.

Much like the character at the center of VisionQuest, the Marvel show itself went through a brief identity crisis.

Jac Schaeffer, the architect behind WandaVision and successor series Agatha All Along, intended to spearhead the concluding chapter of her television trilogy — a Vision-centric saga of self-discovery with returning star Paul Bettany. Then came a phone call with the actor during which Schaeffer shared her decision to step away from the project for “personal reasons,” according to Bettany.

“I felt like the rug had been pulled from under my feet,” he tells Entertainment Weekly. “I love her very much and we made a lovely thing together. I had been waiting and looking forward to having my turn with Jac. And then 24 hours later, I was at a lunch with Terry, because that’s the speed at which Marvel move.”

Terry Matalas, who satiated Star Trek fans with Next Generation sequel Picard, picked up the baton for VisionQuest (premiering Oct. 14 on Disney+). He met with Bettany to interrogate the actor’s ideas about the character and where they could take this concept. What came out of that mind meld was “this intergenerational digital trauma,” the actor describes….
