‘Scrubs’ Is Back With Old Flames and New Drama
The docs are older, the romances complicated, and Dr. Cox is in trouble — but Sacred Heart still has its spark.

Love is contagious at Sacred Heart Hospital when this sitcom revival’s older (and wiser?) docs J.D. (Zach Braff), Turk (Donald Faison), and Elliot (Sarah Chalke) return for a second season. In the two-episode premiere, patient zero is J.D., who has hooked up with the cutie he crushed on in the first season finale, Charlie (Rachel Bilson).
“His job makes dating tricky. When you’re a doctor and the Chief of Medicine, it doesn’t always leave time to dedicate to a new partner,” says Scrubs executive producer Aseem Batra. But don’t worry, it may have been 15 years since the original series debuted, but J.D. doesn’t need a little blue pill quite yet. “As for sex, he seems to be back in the swing of things — although maybe not as flexible as in his 20s.”
Batra knows that 20-something J.D. well. She worked on the original Scrubs, created by Bill Lawrence, in the fifth season. She and executive producer Lawrence co-created and serve as showrunners for the revival whose February 25, 2026, premiere was the highest-rated comedy episode on ABC and the top ABC series debut on streaming in more than a year.….
