Nathan was a game journo.
Zoe a Game Dev.
Zoe's game Depression Quest came out and Nathan rated it high.

Now I dont remember the details so feel free to look it up, so take this with a grain of salt and free free to correct me.

Zoe's boyfriend at the time, publicly said she had cheated on him with a game journo... Nate.

Turned out that Nathan and Zoe were hooking up.
Which is kind of a issue when one is reviewing your product.

But I think (This is were I cant remember fully) that it turned out that it had happened after the review? Either way Nathan I had to disclose the relationship in a later article and Kotaku, where he worked at the time had to change their policy.

Gamergate I believed blew it up from a little issue into something much bigger and she got harassed none stop.

As to Games being directed to influence a right win fan base.
Kinda sorta.

It has been tried, sure.

But now, it isnt so much the games being right wing, but the commentators and youtubers who grift off it. And push the narrative on the games behalf.

There is a guy, his name is Mark Kern who pushes this narrative so blindly its hilarious.

He claims to be a game dev, he will shout out all his achievements in the game dev world, but any hard look and it all falls apart.

He worked for Blizzard as a Team lead, he was fired. He then started his own company, in which he spent 3+ mill of their budget on a bus for advertising, he was fired, from his own company.

He has since made a new studio and has been making a game for like 5+ years that has been on kickstarter the entire time. The problem, he hasnt made any movement in developing the game in the 5 years but still gladly takes new kickstarters.

He spends all day on twitter shouting how game X needs more boobs and guns and grifting all the other little lonely right wing losers for more and more money.

Youtubers like Asmongold push the narrative further.

They dont want diversity in games. The want every game to be the same, a white male main character killing as brutally as he can while girls with massive tits run around with as little clothes as possible.

And while I love girls and breasts lol there is a time and a place and not every game needs to be that.

Any attempt to break that mold and its "who is this even made for? Not us gamers thats for sure!"

The point is that the gaming world is indeed poison. But the people who poisoned the well are also the ones drinking from it.

Its an ouroboro.
