USA TODAY’s investigation has uncovered further misuse of Flock license plate reader cameras, leading to additional arrests, firings and suspensions of officers across multiple states and prompting many jurisdictions to pause or abandon the technology.
At least three more police officers were arrested and a fourth was fired for alleged misuse of Flock license plate reader cameras after USA TODAY reporters asked their employers why they repeatedly tracked individual cars.
Those latest developments bring the total number of police and sheriff’s officials arrested, fired, put on leave or placed under investigation because of USA TODAY’s reporting on widespread Flock misuse to 22.
