A coronal mass ejection from the sun blanketed the earth with highly charged particles interacting with the atmosphere, translating to show of colors: pinks, greens, orange and red.
The colors you see from the Northern Lights depend on which gas in our atmosphere the particles are interacting with and at what height in the atmosphere.
