MAGA will eventually outgrow Donald Trump, though, for now, the movement will reflect all its leader’s worst attributes.
In the case of the July 13 column “Trump Derangement Syndrome is getting in the way of my love life," the key attribute former professor Charles Robinson shares with our current president is a gleeful denial of any attribute that other people might find unattractive.
I’ll set aside the Dispatch’s irresponsibility in printing such intellectually and emotionally lazy drivel for a later date.
For now, I’d like to address the former professor’s core assertion with some political and historical context that he either ignored or was unaware of when he decided to blame his inability to get a date on a “syndrome” the right made up more than 20 years ago to denigrate those who protested President George W. Bush’s policies.
The near left almost used it to describe those who protested President Barack Obama, only to find that loosely-defined pejoratives just don’t seem to work as well to motivate our side of the spectrum than it does Robinson’s.
As a biomedical engineer, I’m sure that Robinson’s ability to explain complex relationships between a beating heart and an electrode far surpass any that the Dispatch’s general readership would be able to.
