A federal judge just told the Trump administration to put it all back.

On June 12, U.S. District Judge Angel Kelley in Boston issued a preliminary injunction ordering the Interior Department to restore interpretive exhibits and signs at National Park System sites that had been stripped away since May 2025 — including displays on slavery and climate change. While the case moves forward, the administration is also barred from pulling down any more.
In her ruling, Judge Kelley didn't mince words. She described the removals as setting "a dangerous precedent of censorship and sanitization" — a court putting a name to what critics have warned about for more than a year: the quiet rewriting of how America's own history gets told on public land.
The lawsuit was brought by the National Parks Conservation Association and five other groups, who argued the government was scrubbing uncomfortable truths from the places millions of families visit every year. The parks belong to the public — and so, the suit argued, does the full story those parks are supposed to tell.
This is a preliminary injunction, not a final verdict. The litigation continues, and the administration can still fight it. But for now, the signs go back up, and the removals stop.
