Christa Pike, a Tennessee death row inmate, survived a botched lethal‑injection execution and remains in critical condition, while her attorneys fight for access, evidence preservation, and a possible commutation.
NASHVILLE – Tennessee death row inmate Christa Pike is still suffering "a lot of cognitive confusion" after regaining consciousness following her botched execution, her attorney said Oct. 7.
Attorney Randy Spivey said Pike was considered "brain dead" on Monday and the medical team was planning to remove life support the following day. But on Tuesday she woke up and began speaking.
Spivey was not in the room when Pike regained consciousness, but said he believes the first words she uttered were "where am I and who are you?" Spivey declined to say what Pike remembers from the attempted execution but said she is "very aware the state tried to execute her."…..
