there is so much here to unpack. first and foremost, the absurd idea that it is the fault of people like me that there are nazis in the republican party. rod dreher is from LOUISIANA. he lived there when DAVID DUKE was running for president.
i simply cannot imagine the level of delusion and sheer ignorance it takes to believe that the rise of Republican Nazis is some outside imposition and not something that has come from within the American right.

but the other thing is that this passage makes it clear that rod dreher *cannot see anything about me other than my blackness.* it is so clear that in his mind, my professional output consists of this:

90 percent of my writing is about american law, history, constitutionalism and the overall political system. but dreher and the people like him (and frankly quite a few others) are basically incapable of seeing that.

but again, genuinely hilarious (derogatory) for a guy whose father was a klansman to say "the presence of nazis in the republican party is because black people wouldn't shut up." oh, is that why nazis immediately began organizing in the wake of donald trump's 2016 victory too?
