 A great thread on how Republicans are using trans to police people

This is something I've been warning about, and mostly ignored over, forever: the anti-trans panic is going to affect cis people.
It's tempting for cis people to ignore this, thinking we're safe. But we're not. It's being used to police us, as well.

I've seen this coming for years: having instilled the idea that trans people are a moral threat to the republic, the next step is expanding who is "trans."
If you don't conform to their narrow gender roles, you are "trans" and need to have your rights stripped.
One reason I saw this coming is that the right wingers have been flinging anti-trans slurs at me for years now. I'm cis, but it doesn't bother me, because there's nothing wrong with being trans.
But in it, I also saw the playbook. It was an attack on me for not being submissive.
On the flip side, it can be uncomfortable to talk about, because no one wants to feel like you're stealing someone else's experience.
But you can both say that trans people are far more affected while recognizing that the goal was always to use anti-trans panic to police everyone's gender.
