An angel went back to Heaven today. Dolly Parton has exited the stage after a legendary life filled with music, laughter, and the adoration of millions the world over! My Father LOVED Dolly, so when I met Miss Parton, I told her about how Dad was a huge Stan and that he raised his kids as Dolly Parton patrons as well. I told her I rolled tears when she sang “Coat of Many Colors” and said “The only way I could’ve cried harder tonight would’ve been if you sang the ‘Little Andy’ song.” Dolly let out a yelp and said “You ARE a fan!” And she could not have been sweeter the night I took my Mom to see Dolly do her show in Tampa, snapping this pic that hung on Mom’s wall until she died last December. Dolly was that rare entertainer who felt like a friend, whose lyrics were as personal and personable as the singer herself. My Dad loved her. My Mom loved her. And I will always love her. We were lucky to ever live in a world with this profoundly prolific creative force in it, who not only gave us her heart and soul in song and on the silver screen, but also found time to buy books for kids who had none, help bring “Buffy” to life, and donate millions to find a cure for COVID. It will be a hard candy Christmas existing on an earth without Dolly Parton from now on.
