First of all, much, much apologies to Sizzle for borrowing.....well, stealing his perfect description of Janelle! Oh, Janelle, we are going to miss you! Who's the best HG there ever was? After 14 Big Brother seasons, and how many BB HGs...140? 150?....who remains, for SO many BB fans the most beautiful HG? Who's long blond hair is the most shimmering? Who's laugh is the most infectious? Who's physical prowess and contest-winning abilities among women AND men, remains the most impressive? Who's been the most captivating presence in the history of BB for legions of her fans? I rest my case!
A quick diversion!! Browsing in a newstand, picking up some reading material for a long train ride, I happen to buy a New Yorker Magazine. For non-NYers, the New Yorker is to Time Out NY Magazine and New York Magazine, what the NY Times is to The Daily News or the NY Post. Sorry for being sort of snobby here--and perhaps a bit left-wing, UWS liberal--but its true! Anyways--as I'm looking at this magazine, I come across a review of Big Brother!! (Not a review of the latest gems from the NY Philharmonic, or Shakespeare in the Park, or the latest, cutting-edge art exhibit down in Chelsea--Nope!! It's a Review of Big Brother! It's Official! Big Brother has entered the pantheon of recognized American cultural phenomenon, to be taken seriously (or as seriously as one can take BB!), debated about and..enjoyed! Now--it's true, the review is quite a bit tongue-in-cheek, BUT, there's description about the hypnotic feeds, the intense and analytical discussion by internet users -- (Is that a shootout to Jokers??? Yay!!!), and a wonderfully colorful description of many of this year's cast! I have to mention how the reviewer describes Danielle: "A sexy brunette nurse inexplicably pretending to be a sexy brunette elementary school teacher". Is that a description of a character in an Off-Broadway Show or what?? So--for Big Brother this year......ratings, schmatings!.....YOU got reviewed in The New Yorker! You're an official recognized, debated and analyzed American cultural phenomenon!!
OK--Back to Janelle. In decades past, there was the pantheon of female goddesses--from Jean Harlow to the wacky comediennes like Claudette Colbert to the Film Noir beauties to the one and only Marilyn Monroe. Well, as the review in The New Yorker stated, in this day and age, reality TV has become such a major part of the entertainment world--and not just in the U.S. Who doesn't root for a "Dame" Susan Boyle or what better entertainment is there than the often nail-biting Olympics, where NBC broadcasts the sporting events intertwined with the lives and personal stories of the individual athletes. No--we are not necessarily in the age of "Platinum Blond" or "It Happened One Night" or "Some Like it Hot". But in the world of today's entertainment, for so many of us, Janelle has become OUR one and only!!
We wish you the very best Janelle! We are so heartbroken to see you go, and hate how you were blind-sided, and deceived by cold-hearted (but AMAZINGLY skillful) Dan, and wishy-washy Britney, and by Mike Malin, better known as Boogie......or Pukeface. But we do recognize that that's the world of BB. We hope you aren't too sad, or embarrassed, or even heartbroken by the turn of events. We want to see and hear you for years to come. You will ALWAYS remain for your fans, the one and only Janelle, OUR Reality TV Platinum Blond, an engaging, charming, charismatic, beautiful 5'10" Goddess!
