I don't know how this selection is made... what threads to show. Probably a set number of maximum threads whether or not those threads have unread posts or not.
Showing threads with no unread posts causes repeated and unnecessary scrolls down to the bottom of the page to see if there are any other unread posts further down the list.
If only threads with unread posts would show, then the thread list would usually be much smaller and much easier to see if all the threads with unread posts were seen already.
