 In the beginning this was a perfect description, but the reality personalities were only from MTV. They expanded to cast from some dating shows in the mid seasons and more recently from other CBS

shows. As it progressed, the challenges also became more and more physical and athletic. While they still combine a puzzle, trivia or eating something sometimes, overall they require significant athleticism, strength and/or endurance. I actually enjoy watching the challenges there (unlike BB and Survivor).
The biggest difference, which is huge, is that most of the casts are returnees and there are tons of long term and complex relationships. As someone who started watching after BB and Survivor players were originally cast, I felt the need to go back and watch the older seasons to understand. Even then, so much happens between seasons and off camera that I listen to podcasts who do the work to explain what is going on. It is possible to watch a season without doing the work, but it’s even worse than watching BB without feeds if you want to understand what is happening.
