So them pushing to keep her make them obviously not trust them anymore because why would you want someone to stay who is coming for us? Effectively playing the middle is protecting your allies on both sides from each other so that you continue to have options to make a play down the road that benefits you. Now they are screwed on both sides basically because when all the tea spills, they will have nobody...and nobody but themselves to blame. It's so bad.
