My understanding was you wanted to keep the player BUT if you couldn't come to terms then a trade could be worked out. But it seems most use it to do what you describe. NT

xx * Since posting I have heard of instances where Patriots did tag and trade (Matt Cassell and another iirc) so I'm going with if it's done with a reasonable amount of time passed then ok..also...
