I think it was very good. Maks' choreography was appropriate to the samba. He was true to all the elements of the dance, as best one could be 04/16/14 11:23 AM

having to share the stage with two animated Disney characters that were over sized and dominate the camera frame. The Samba is not supposed to be complicated. It's an sexually charged Latin dance that has absolutely nothing, nothing, nothing in common with the music they were given by producers. It was beyond a stupid action by production; and, honestly, I can't think of a single thing I would have done to the choreography to improve it. Carrie Ann, surprisingly was right. These two dance as one person. It's the best I've seen Maks dance since the Internationals. Easy 9s with a one point downgrade to the ignorance of the production team. (For those really into ballroom, please watch it again and note that Meryl is on her toes and Maks, as is required in some forms of Samba, occasionally places his entire foot on the floor. If memory serves, (at my age that is always questionable) the formal style was Samba no Pé. I must applaud Maks for his incorporation of the real Brazilian Ballroom elements.
While I don't intend this as an after thought, I feel compelled to mention that Val wins the "choreographer of the night" title for me. I can only call the results of his choreography for Danica as simply brilliant. As a pair, they were stunning, and also, for me, the best dance of the night. How Len could say Danica lost hold is beyond me. I watched it frame by frame on my AVID deck. Len was flat wrong.
