This one has been vexing me for a while, because yes, I always wanted to see a successful all girl alliance. But I've never been able to get on board with the BallSmashers. I keep wondering why.
First, I'm convinced it is partly or largely due to my age. I cannot help but see the BS girls as "little girls," even though I know all are in their 20's and I believe all college grads (or law school grad). They remind me of a clique of high school girls who spend every moment together and work to keep everyone else out of their group. Some may argue this behavior makes them successful because it bonds them and keeps the alliance strong. Fine. It still does not explain their endless discussions of nothing but lip gloss.
Second, (and again I fear my age plays a part) I'm not convinced they appreciate their all girl alliance status. I'm reminding of the Spygirls in BB18 who wanted a girls' alliance, but spent their time (minus Bridgette) declaring "I am NOT a feminist!!" Now in BBOTT whenever the BS discuss their alliance they remind everyone they NEVER wanted an all girl alliance! They almost seem apologetic for it. I wanted a deliberate female alliance, not one created by default and apologized for. Only recently have I heard them start to talk about how the BS alliance could make some history.
Third, I'm not sure I like the dynamics of this girls' alliance. Alex hides behind it and her game is to push others out in front to save herself. Morgan is just "there" letting it happen. Shelby, the most entertaining personality of the group, is either letting it happen or is oblivious. Whitney got points from me by actually doing something to play for herself. It is not the girls' alliance. It is Alex's alliance, period.
Finally, the argument that the girls are so "good" compared to the "vile" LNJ is lost on me. I'm not here to attend Wednesday night youth group at the church. I'm an adult and I'm here to watch a cut-throat game of Big Brother. I wish there were some women, Amazons, dominating the game.
One other thing: Jason said he knew Whitney hadn't flipped entirely because she wouldn't tell them the alliance's name. I take his point, but in Whitney's defense, would you want to explain the name "Ball Smashers" to Justin and Jason? LOL!
